Stop Laziness and Use it to Your Advantage
Human beings are, without a doubt, the only species to be blessed with the plague of laziness! In the face of adversity or responsibility, we tend to evade the obvious, and find ways to do just the opposite of what we are supposed to do. Have you ever found yourself devising crazy plans just to avoid a task you don’t want to accomplish? Here’s why being lazy is a good thing and how you can stop laziness, turning it to your advantage:
Being lazy, just like being bored, is a creative stimulator! Everyone’s lazy; the only difference between a lazy person and an unproductive person is the way that they manage their laziness. While many people believe that there is a clear divide between productivity and laziness, you’ll see that the divide will slowly disappear by the end of this article. For example, take the average task of taking out the trash.
No one enjoys taking out the trash, but it must be done. My mother, for one, absolutely hates taking out the trash. When you’re obliged to do something that you don’t want to do, it becomes a chore. A lot of people don’t like doing chores (especially college kids), and become lazy. What they don’t realize is that instead of letting the trash accumulate and eventually having to take it out, they could see that chore accomplished without lifting a finger. In essence, one must stop laziness at its roots!
My mother understood this and took advantage of her laziness and surroundings to find a way to never take the trash out again. The solution was right in front of her eyes! She used me to do what didn’t please her! Of course, this is a relatively simple example that explains how sitting on your ass can stimulate thoughts and lead to creative problem solving, but the rule applies to everything else!
You Can Stop Laziness to Stimulate your Creative Drive
Not everything is as easy to solve as daily routine tasks but a little investigation will show you that almost every invention has its roots in the plague we call laziness. The Snuggie was invented because people were tired of always having to leave their comfortable covers to go heat up their popcorns during Friday night movie nights.
The remote control was invented because people were too lazy to get up from their couch to go change the channel! The universal remote control was invented because people didn’t want to deal with a remote control for their television, air conditioning, DVD player, sound system, etc…
The automatic gear box in cars, which is now present in almost every vehicle in America, was invented because someone, one day, was too lazy to shift gears and decided that the car should be able to do that on its own. Laziness is what makes us resourceful!
Truly Push Yourself to Stop Laziness Before it Negatively Affects Your Life
Next time you’re going to put off doing something crucial, instead of sitting there thinking about how bad it’s going to be when you finally do it, find a way to make sure you won’t have to do anything that displeases you! Obviously, you have to pay, taxes, breathe, and feed yourself, but those should not be too much of a problem. It will cost you nothing! You won’t even have to get off of the couch! Who knows, you might even get an idea for the next great invention! The only thing left to do would be to implement that idea! Stop that laziness before it starts to control your life. Of course this can be a problem for some people. If that is the case, check out the article on Implementing Ideas/Productivity.
